Coral Drake - start to finish

After wanting to make some concept art I decided on creating a coral creature whose body would protect small fish and other reef-dwelling critters.

The creature I ended up with, after mostly letting other people vote on which concept to continue with, is a dragon-like animal with symbiotic corals growing on its back and extremities. The corals on its front legs help it swim forward, and it can spread the fans on its back to counteract its weight in water by adding more resistance. It lives in shallow, tropical waters, and can close up its large gill scales for short bursts of time to hunt above water.

They Mostly live off of small organisms they dig out of the sand while burrowed, as well as nutrients synthetisized by their corals, but they will occasionally hunt for birds and other animals flocking the beaches at low tide. This hunting behaviour tends to be more common in areas where pollution has inhibited their corals' ability to grow and thrive.
